  All of my logos colours palette choice came from this image which the client ranked #1 in terms of preference.   Other references tend to use black on warm tones but I preferred using more complimentary colours for that extra fun and funky vibe. Here are some of the mockups below. Because the brief mentioned it'll be used on free helmet stickers, I decided to mock up the sticker and helmet separately. Not many people talk about it but the leading up of the presentation of the client is equally important to build anticipation and get them in the same headspace so that they can't reject your logos based on personal preference.   Do watch in full screen so you can see the amount of time I spent adding detail to this logo! I can definitely say that I spent a lot of time exploring this concept because I know it's something that the client likes. In advertising, we would consider this the 'safe' option, haha. I'm definitely proud of this one too because I spent a lot of time crafting it - I wanted to do it right by the client. So...I watched quite a lot of videos on calligraphy before starting on this. I experimented with a star shape within the 'o' as well but it didn't really work considering the star is quite a rigid shape and the calligraphy swirls are more organic.  I downloaded a bunch of free fonts and decided to use the Funkies font as a base reference. Technically I'm not modifying the font directly so I hope that means I don't need to purchase a commercial license? Might be a grey area on this...   Another timelapse of my explorations. I wanted to recreate the sketch where the G and S was connected but I felt it wasn't working and opted for a more 'casual doodle' (Sorry if there's a lot of flashes in the timelapse, I was at war with myself on which style to pick). This logo's intention is to be more freeform - thus highlighting the 'custom-made' aspect of the business - but still holding some attitude. I liked the look of framing the word 'stick' with flourishes from the 'G' and 'T'. The majority of the video shows that I was working really hard on the left style but chose the more simpler one on the right in the end. While sketching it out in Procreate, I realised that if I tried to edit too much and attempt to make it perfect, it loses a bit of the freeform vibe and dynamic feel. I decided to do some explorations and sketching on Procreate because of the wide variety of brushes they have - it's perfect for calligraphy. Here's a timelapse of the first concept - you can really see how I tried different styles before settling on one that has squarish blockish shapes that's similar to my references. Some screenshots of my explorations below. Tried some chunky as well as thinner calligraphy styles here. Didn't look 'funky' enough. Just more experimentations of layout and style. Tested some more blockish letters with different brushes and layouts. In the end, I settled with this layout because I wanted to show how different sizes of letters - people - come together to make up the roller derby community. I also wanted the spacing in between to be tight so that it represents how in roller derby everybody's always huddled together to block the jammer. Refining the logotype. Making it chunkier.
