Client's Choices

I sent my sketches to Alexia and got some feedback from the client. They selected these 3 sketches.

In hindsight, I should've asked what exactly did they like about the chosen sketches, but I can kind of guess because of the range of examples they gave to me.

I tried digitising the first one by tracing it manually with the pen tool but it didn't turn out the way I envisioned it - it wasn't smooth and you could see that it looked kind of...well, the only word I can use to describe it is gooey.

Tried outlining as well as extruding it and...nope, it's not gonna work.

I mean, it doesn't look super BAD. But it doesn't look GREAT either. It definitely has that roller derby vibe though, although it's quite imperfect.

After talking to Walter, he explained how some of the shapes within the letterforms itself contributes a lot to how the letter is formed. I never really noticed it before but if you look at it as just simple shapes - take the counter in the 'o' for example, you start to notice imperfections - like how it doesn't 'join' as accurately, compared to a well-crafted font like Helvetica.

Walter also pointed out how some of my inspirations from Pinterest, took care of the craft and weight of the letterforms. I never really noticed the 'shadow' on the outgoing stroke until he pointed it out. It really gives it some depth - signifying that one stroke lies on top of the other.

Seems like I need to craft my stuff a little bit more.
